This island offers various possibilities for spending your time… Here are some suggestions:

Whale Watching – The only place in Portugal and one of the few in the world where you can watch whales. Old whale hunters are nowadays available to help you find them. You may even swim with gentle dolphins, as they come to meet the boats. Searide is a company that can offer you this service.

Scuba Diving – Azores Sea has a visibility and a temperature that will allow you to observe fish from different habitats, including tropical ones that visit these waters during summer time. We have contacts of diving centers you may dive with. Look for Searide.

Fish Hunting – The Azores and Pico Island in particular are an excellent place to practice this sport. You can dive a few meters away from the house but there are lots of other places where you can hunt.. We can help you find the best spot!

Trekking Tours – The highest Portuguese mountain invites you to an unforgettable tour. There are certified guides specifically for the tour. We may give you their contacts. Apart from this tour there are many others equally beautiful and requiring less fitness. Look for Searide.

Mountain Biking – Tracks and secondary roads are excellent for this sport. We are in contact with outdoor activities companies where you can rent an appropriate bike and we can lend you military maps of the region. Look for Searide.

Visit to S. Jorge Island – from Casa das Barcas you can see S. Jorge Island which you can visit by boat and enjoy its nice trekking tours, namely the Fajãs.

Visit to Faial Island – take the boat, head to Horta City and visit this beautiful island.
Also, feel free to try out the famous Peter’s gin.

Bird Watching – The Azores islands are a privileged place for innumerous species of birds, some of them rare or threatened namely Cory’s shearwater and tern. Here, you can easily spot some of these birds and listen to their singing.

Vineyards – The landscape of the vineyards was proposed to Unesco’s World Heritage. During centuries, people have transformed the lava from the volcano into stone walls that serve as protection to the vineyards. As this activity developed, innumerous other sites have been built, such as manor houses, tide wells, wine cellars and chapels. The exceptional quality of some wines produced here has traveled around the world.

Sea bathing – The temperature of the water is sometimes higher than the outside temperature which invites to a sea bathing. Even tough without any sand beach, the Pico Island has innumerous natural swimming pools of enormous beauty, one of which not further than 1 Km from the house.
